Design separate from content

The JDD is unlike many of the popular content management systems in that it completely separates the form or design of the website from its content.

Independent design

This makes it easy to modify the design of the website without touching the underlying content.

Either the entire graphical appearance of the site can be modified in one go or just the design of individual types of pages.

Page-type designs

In the JDD Designer you create one or more underlying page designs.

Each design will share the same graphical appearance. Onto this design you put placeholders. These placeholders will contain content – either content that is common across page types or content that is unique to a page.

Refreshing the design

In this way you can change the design of the website at two levels without touching the site content:

Since the graphical design of the pages is defined separately you can replace this graphical underlay whilst still keeping the same placeholder names. The site design changes without touching any content.

What distinguishes one type of page from another apart from the underlying graphical design, is the content common across that type of page. By modifying the page Template you can change the appearance of all pages based on that Template whilst leaving the page-specific content untouched.
